St Ives and the surrounding area need better recycling facilities, and Green councillor Tamsyn Williams has raised the issue at a recent Town Council meeting.
She argued that the Green Box kerbside collection service should be extended to included cardboard and plastics; there should be more recycling banks for residents; and more should be done to promote composting.
Tamsyn commented: “Recycling is a very practical way in which individuals can do their bit for the environment. Most people are keen to recycle more, and the Council’s role should be to find ways of making it easier to do so.”
Tamsyn has met with the Penwith District Council’s recycling officer to discuss these and other issues, and will be campaigning further on recycling in the coming months.

In April the County Council took over responsibility for parking enforcement and there has been widespread criticism of the way in which this has affected St Ives. The town used to have a full time traffic warden but since April the County Council has provided only part time cover and there are several days each week when there is no parking enforcement at all.
