St Ives Traffic: Action Needed PDF Print E-mail

St Ives Town Council has backed the Green Party’s proposal to earmark some funds to tackle traffic jams in St Ives next summer.

The town’s traffic problems are getting worse every year and it is time to take urgent action. Better signs are needed to guide vehicles along the most appropriate routes, and to ensure that the only vehicles which enter the town centre are those which really need to be there.

Green Party councillor Ron Tulley has joined the traffic forum which meets with police and county highways officials and he will be pressing the need for traffic regulation and better signage.

Ron added: “Dealing with the summer traffic chaos is one of the most urgent challenges facing the town and we must ensure that the first steps are taken before next summer.”

Cornwall County Council has agreed to spend £21 million on Newquay Airport, at a time when concerns are growing about the contribution of air travel to climate change. This is on top of the Council’s annual subsidy to the airport of £1 million worth of taxpayers’ money.
