Green Success in Local Elections 07 PDF Print E-mail

The Green Party is today celebrating election success in St Ives. Six Greens have been elected to St Ives Town Council, and the Green Party is now the largest group on the council, holding 6 of the 16 seats.

The successful candidates were Louise Channon (St Ives North Ward), Paula Richards and Katrina Slack (Lelant & Carbis Bay), and Ron Tulley, Tamsyn Williams and Tim Andrewes (St Ives South Ward).

The Green Party's candidates for Penwith District Council also performed strongly. Ron Tulley came second in St Ives South Ward with 26% of the vote, while Louise Channon and Paula Richards both came third with 19.7% and 18.5% of the vote respectively.Rob Pickering, standing in Penzance East for the first time, finished with 11.1%.

The County Council is on the verge of agreeing a 30 year waste management strategy which is almost certain to lead to the building of an incinerator in the county and high levels of waste being produced and burnt for decades to come.
